I knew I read a lot of feeds but I had no idea that over a month I would consume 1,330 articles of one sort and another. After a few of years of happily using Bloglines to subscribe to RSS feeds I have recently switched to Google Reader which I have found to be more convenient. One handy feature (I think!) is that it tells you what your reading trends are.

Now this reading is done for both work and recreation so my subscriptions are a mix that reflects that. By far most of my reading is related to the web, design and topics that relate to my role as an educator but this figure represents an incredible consumption of information of various types. Yet if anyone had asked me I would have said I only read a moderate amount online!

Many of these articles are scanned, processed quickly as I decide if they relate to my interests. If they do, I read them with more care, if not I quickly hit the space bar and I am on to the next. An RSS feed means that you can process incoming information quickly. So although the number of articles read looks impressive probably for anyone working in the internet related areas, the figure is not. What it does indicate is how much information there is to digest.

Well, I had better get back to my morning read but I must reduce the number of feeds!!!
